I-95 New Interchange at St. Johns Heritage Parkway SE
The St. Johns Heritage Parkway SE improvement program is a joint effort of the City of Palm Bay, Brevard County, and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to improve capacity, operations and safety as well as promote economic development in southern Brevard County.
The FDOT will construct a new diverging diamond interchange (DDI) on Interstate 95 (I-95) just north of Micco Road. For more info visit FDOT website and reference - Contract No: E5Y20 FPID: 426904-3-52-01
The City of Palm Bay will construct the St. Johns Heritage Parkway SE to connect the new interchange to Babcock Street near Davis Lane. The St. Johns Heritage Parkway SE is a 1.67 mile stretch of road that includes two (2) vehicle travel lanes and a 7’ buffered bike lane in each direction, a 6’ sidewalk, and a 12’ multi-use path.
In January 2017, a Notice to Proceed (NTP) was given to the design-build team of Ranger Construction Industries, Leware Construction Company, and Wantman Group, Inc. (WGI). Early clearing work for the new interchange began in March and construction activities will begin in the spring of 2017. The City of Palm Bay is currently in the selection process for the design-build team for the Parkway and construction is scheduled to occur in late summer or early fall with the intention of both projects to be complete by Year End 2018.
What is a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI)?
Note: Video is an FDOT DDI project in another area of FL but will work the same way here in Palm Bay.
