Florida Building Code:
Beginning April 1, 2002, the code used for regulating all construction within the State of Florida has changed to the Florida Building Code. For more information, visit Florida Department of Business Professional Regulation. Comparisons between the old Southern Building Code and the new Florida Building Code can be found at the International Code Council.
Most of the United States is covered by building regulations ranging in coverage from fire and structural safety to health, security and conservation of energy. Florida's state and local governments have enacted various building and building-related codes to protect your life, health and property. State law requires jurisdictions to provide comprehensive building code enforcement services, including plan reviews and site inspections.
The duty of Homeland Security is to protect the public from terrorist acts. Applications for Homeland Security commercial building permitting may be submitted to the Building Division.
