The Palm Bay Parks & Recreation Department has released several updates concerning programming, special events, and facility use.

Summer Activity for Kids

Palm Bay Parks & Recreation will host the Palm Bay Kidz club Monday through Friday for four weeks from Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 31.  The hours will be daily from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Palm Bay Kidz Club is for Palm Bay children ages 6 to 10 years old.  Outdoor games and activities will be planned.  The cost is $60 per child per week.  Weekly registrations only.  First come, first served.  Limited spaces are available at each location.  The locations are Fred Poppe Regional Park, 1951 Malabar Rd NW; Goode park, 1300 Bianca Dr SE; Liberty Park, and 895 Carlyle Ave SE.  All Kidz Club activities are subject to change and weather permitting as this is an outdoor program.  Registration for week 1 of Kidz Club begins Monday, June 15 at 9 a.m.  Registration will be available online at www.PlayPalmBay.org.  Patrons may also call the Tony Rosa Community Center at (321) 952-3443 or the Ted Whitlock Community Center at (321) 952-3231 to set up an appointment to register in person.  Parents can call the special events rainout hotline at (321) 726-5682 for daily Kidz Club status due to weather.

Outdoor Movie Events

Palm Bay Parks & Recreation is planning a series of free outdoor movie events.  The first event is scheduled for Saturday, June 13 behind the Ted Whitlock Community Center inside Fred Poppe Regional Park, 1951 Malabar Rd NW beginning at 8:30 PM.  The movie will be Finding Nemo (rated G).  There will be a limited number of vehicle spaces as well as a limited number of “family green spaces” to place a blanket and a few chairs.  Spaces are free, but pre-registration is required.   Registration is now available by calling the Tony Rosa Community Center at (321) 952-3443 or the Ted Whitlock Community Center at (321) 952-3231.  You may also register online at www.PlayPalmBay.org.  The rain date will be Saturday, June 20.  Patrons can call the special events rainout hotline at (321) 726-5682 for movie status due to weather.

Those choosing vehicle spaces will need to stay inside their vehicle for the duration of the movie, except for visits to the restroom or vendors, as to comply with physical distancing guidelines.  Those choosing “family green spaces” will be assigned an 8’ by 8’ marked off space in which to set up blankets/chairs.  Patrons are asked to stay inside their marked areas as to comply with physical distancing guidelines, except for visits to the restroom or vendors.  Patrons parked in vehicle spaces will need to remain in their space, with headlights off until the event ends and the field lights are turned on.  Once the lights are on, staff will guide all vehicles out of the area in an orderly fashion.

To celebrate Independence Day this year, the parks department will host two additional movie events on Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5 at 8:30 PM behind the Ted Whitlock Community Center inside Fred Poppe Regional Park.  National Treasure (rated PG) will be shown both nights.  Following the movie, they will show an approximately 10-minute fireworks show set to music on the big screen.  Registration is now available by calling the Tony Rosa Community Center at (321) 952-3443 or the Ted Whitlock Community Center at (321) 952-3231.  You may also register online at www.PlayPalmBay.org.  The same rules as the June 13 event apply.  Patrons can call the special events rainout hotline at (321) 726-5682 for movie status due to weather.

On Friday, July 10, at 8:30 PM, Palm Bay Parks & Recreation will host Fun Friday by the Bay featuring a FREE Movie in the Park at Veterans Memorial Park, 2201 Port Malabar Blvd NE.  The movie will be Frozen II (rated PG).  This event will feature “family green spaces” only, no vehicle spaces.  Pre-registration for Fun Friday by the Bay featuring a FREE Movie in the Park will begin on Monday, June 29.  Patrons can call the special events rainout hotline at (321) 726-5682 for movie status due to weather.

On Saturday, July 11, at 8:30 PM, Palm Bay Parks & Recreation will host another outdoor movie behind the Ted Whitlock Community Center inside Fred Poppe Regional Park.  Both vehicle spaces and family green spaces will be available at this event.  The movie will be Finding Dory (rated PG).  Pre-registration is required and will begin on Monday, June 29 and will follow the same rules as the previous events.  Patrons can call the special events rainout hotline at (321) 726-5682 for movie status due to weather.

Facility Rentals

Indoor facility rentals at Palm Bay community centers and the Captain’s House are suspended until further notice.  Rentals of pavilions have resumed and can be made by calling the Tony Rosa Community Center at (321) 952-3443 or the Ted Whitlock Community Center at (321) 952-3231 or by visiting the rental section at www.PlayPalmBay.org.  Pavilions will be cleaned and disinfected before the start of each rental.

Park Amenities

Playgrounds and restroom building inside of Palm Bay parks have reopened as of June 1, as well as the skate park at McGriff Park, 1146 DeGroodt Rd SW.  Playgrounds and restrooms are cleaned and disinfected daily.  It is still recommended for patrons to follow physical distancing guidelines and wash their hands frequently.

Recreation Programs

All classes, leagues, and community partner programs are cancelled until further notice.  Community centers will remain closed to the public as well.  Staff will be available to answer questions by phone at the Tony Rosa Community Center at (321) 952-3443 or the Ted Whitlock Community Center at (321) 952-3231 from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday, and 1 PM to 5 PM on Sunday.  Questions will also be answered via email at PlayPalmBay@pbfl.org.
