Brevard County Household Hazardous Waste Facility Temporarily Closed

Post Date:04/09/2020 2:52 PM

It has come to our attention that there is some confusion regarding the closure of the Brevard County Household Hazardous Waste Facility on Sarno Road. The closure, effective on April 8th, impacts the Hazardous Waste disposal facility only. The Sarno Road landfill and transfer station remains open and operational. Hazardous waste should not be thrown away with regular household garbage. Residents are asked to store household hazardous materials like auto fluids, aerosol sprays (hair, paint, bug, and oven cleaner), propane tanks, and fluorescent lamps, at home until the Household Hazardous Waste Facility reopens to the public.

Waste Management trash and recycling collection service for Palm Bay residents will not be interrupted due to the closure of the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Statewide, Waste Management has experienced a recent surge of service delays caused by a dramatic increase in the volume of household waste as a result of COVID-19 Safer-at-Home orders. Efforts are being made to address the increased waste volume; however, resources are limited due to the widespread impacts of COVID-19. As Safer-at-Home orders remain in place, Waste Management anticipates that the high volume of residential waste will continue.

If your regular Waste Management collection is delayed, please leave your carts curbside for pickup. Delayed routes will be rerouted and collected as soon as possible on the following service day. For service requests, residential and commercial customers may call (321) 723-4455. Customers may also sign up to receive service alerts at Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work together to adjust to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
