Emerson Drive Road Closure Begins March 11th

Post Date:03/08/2019 4:49 PM

Beginning Monday, March 11th, 2019, Emerson Drive will be closed at the C-75 Canal crossing in order to install a new drainage culvert. This project will require the removal of two 60” failed metal pipes and the replacement of a new, improved concrete box culvert. During the closure Palm Bay Public Works will also carry out patch repairs on the large pot holes and surface cracks on the northern section of the roadway in order to improve the driving surface until the road is repaved next year.

Due to the relatively high traffic usage of Emerson Drive, construction at this location will be accelerated, with the road closure projected to last 21 days. Traffic will be rerouted to the neighboring canal crossings and will be marked for motorists. The detour route was designed to avoid school traffic as much as possible and will be monitored to ensure that localized disruptions are kept to a minimum.

This project is the third in a series of stormwater infrastructure improvement projects along the C-75 Canal, which also included the installation of new culverts at Pebble Avenue and Pembroke Avenue. The new, improved culverts installed during these projects will provide improved drainage to the immediate area and help to make Palm Bay’s stormwater system more efficient. Additionally, the new concrete culverts will have an improved lifespan over the previous metal components.

The City of Palm Bay is committed to protecting the community and its waterways through sound planning, construction, maintenance, and improvement of the drainage control systems. The City’s improved Stormwater Utility Program makes this goal a reality, while providing a means for the City to meet State and Federally-mandated regulations for discharging stormwater. The continuation of this and other stormwater projects ensures a healthy municipal infrastructure and improved quality of life for Palm Bay residents.
