2018 Water Conservation Holiday Ornaments
The Water Conservation Holiday Ornament Contest is now closed for entries for2018. We invite you to come and join The City of Palm Bay to light the tree with the ornaments made by Palm Bay Elementary students on December 7th. This is the third year Palm Bay Utilities has sponsored a Water Conservation Holiday Ornament Contest.
Palm Bay Utilities Community Information Coordinator visited John F. Turner, Riviera, Odyssey Prep, Westside, Christa McAuliffe, and Palm Bay elementary schools to get a little help with the holiday decorations for the City Tree and talk to students about water conservation. When winter arrives in Florida, we are missing that one special form that water comes in, snow! Only 2.5% of Earth's water is consumable water and only 1% is accessible for drinking! We need to take care of our share. Almost 600 students crafted water-themed ornaments such as snowmen, snowflakes, recycled plastic water bottles turned into bells and more.
Water is incredibly important and by instilling good conservation methods at a young age student learn water can be saved by drops to the gallons!
The students are invited to see their ornaments on the City Christmas tree at the Tree Lighting Ceremony! Choirs from local schools come out to put on a show for the community right before the tree is lit. Every year Santa Claus will come out with some of our City representatives to flip the big switch to light the tree! All the student’s ornaments are on display for the entire City to see!
All students received a certificate for their lovely contribution to the City tree decorations. A few ornaments will be chosen as winners of the contest. The winners of the Water Conservation Holiday Ornament contest will be awarded at the December 20th Christmas Council meeting. Winners receive a trophy, a certificate, and shake hands with Mayor Capote in congratulations!
