Palm Bay Utilities Recognized As FWEA 2018 Collection System of the Year
Palm Bay, FL, April 17, 2018– Palm Bay Utilities Department was recognized by the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) during its annual meeting held in Daytona Beach on April 17, 2018.
Palm Bay Utilities Department (PBUD) was named Wastewater Collection System of the Year in the mid-size utility category (10,000 to 50,000 wastewater connections). This award recognizes utilities for significant accomplishments and efforts to properly manage, operate, and maintain their wastewater collection system. PBUD provides sanitary sewer service to approximately 15,623 residential customers and 1,265 commercial customers through 103 lift stations, 90 air relief valves, 220 miles of sanitary sewer gravity mains, 4,516 manholes, and 100 miles of force main. Additionally, there are nine miles of reclaimed water distribution lines, providing service to several businesses, residents, and a local park for irrigation and beneficial reuse purposes.
In 2008 PBUD was the first water and wastewater utility (public or private) in the state of Florida to be certified under the internationally recognized ISO 14001:2004 standard. In 2017, the department underwent a certification of ISO 14001:2015 PBUD became the second public utility in the state of Florida to have its water and wastewater treatment facilities concurrently registered under environmental management standard. The Department’s Environmental Management System (EMS), known as Greenway, has created culture within the department that promotes environmental awareness and stewardship throughout every aspect of the organization’s daily operations.
Palm Bay Utilities is honored to be recognized with this award from FWEA. The department was also recognized with this award in 2012 and 2014. Palm Bay Utilities workforce is comprised of 135 highly skilled and trained employees continuously working towards improvement.
