The Birding with David Simpson class is open to all ages and skill levels ages 12 & Up. The cost is $10 per person. The class will be led by David Simpson, nationally recognized birder and naturalist. Students should meet at the sanctuary Nature Center no later than 9:00am. The class will consist of approximately 45 minutes of classroom discussion on the tools and techniques necessary to becoming a skilled birder. The remainder of class time will be spent in the Sanctuary, applying the skills learned in the classroom to better identify birds in the field. During the field portion of the class, students and instructors will be traveling to different habits within the Sanctuary. The terrain is mostly sandy on primitive trails with a few wet spots, so participants are asked to dress accordingly and be prepared for a hike of light to moderate intensity. Sturdy tennis shoes or boots are recommended. Items to bring include sunscreen, insect repellent, drinking water, binoculars (loaner binoculars will be available), small notebook and pencil, snacks, and a hat. Field guides of Florida birds are encouraged. For more information or to the sign up, please contact the Nature Center at (321) 676-6690.
