Visitors - Workforce, Talent, and Education

The standard of talent required to work on Florida's Space Coast was raised more than 60 years ago with the onset of the Space Program and the inception of Harris Corporation's roots - Radiation, Inc. Since that time, we have grown into a technology driven community, and the educational and training requirements become more and more stringent every year.

The EDC spends a great deal of time working with and surveying the manufacturing and business community to understand workforce demands. They work with the schools, colleges, and training centers to bolster the skills necessary to compete for a job in this environment and support local industry. This is an ongoing exercise to insure our workforce keeps pace with the rush of technology and the influx of new manufacturers.

One of the their most important endeavors is the EDC's YP/New Grad Recruitment Program, www.ypCONTACT.org. The goal is to attract and retain young professionals and new college grads from 22 - 35 years old and encourage them to establish roots on the Space Coast. The web site features links to educational partners, social events, internships, and volunteer opportunities. It not only addresses employment opportunities but also presents the overall Space Coast lifestyle young professionals can enjoy while living here. This age group is vital to the health and well-being of any community but in the high tech corridor they are golden.

Our public school system is always ranked near the top of the state. This is a positive result of having so many engineers in the community working and raising children in the midst of the Space Program. Inspiration is the key to education.

There are also more than 40 private and parochial schools in the county. Since many people strive to continually enhance their position in life, we have an abundance of extended curricula and lifelong learning capabilities on the Space Coast.
