water quality

The ultimate concern of a public drinking water program is the quality of the piped water when it  reaches consumers for human consumption. In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prescribes regulations that limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 or visiting the EPA’s website at http://www.epa.gov.

Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) are set at very stringent levels. To understand the possible health effects described for many regulated constituents, a person would have to drink two liters of water every day at the MCL for a lifetime to have a one-in-a-million chance of having the described health effect.

To our customers, we are pleased to report that in the 2008 Annual Water Quality Report the City of Palm Bay’s drinking (potable) water meets all federal and state requirements. The Palm Bay Water Plant routinely monitors for constituents in your drinking (potable) water according to Federal and State laws. Our constant goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking (potable) water. We want you to understand the efforts we make to continually improve the water treatment process and to protect our water sources. We are committed to ensuring the quality of your water. If you have any questions about this report or concerning your water quality, please contact Jason Yarborough at (321) 952-3410.

In order to maintain a safe and dependable water supply, we are continuosly making improvements that will benefit all of our customers. In 2006, a reverse osmosis facility came online which improved water supply pressures throughout the service area, reduced the strain on the Troutman Water
Treatment Facility, and provided capacity for future growth.

We at Palm Bay Utilities work around the clock to provide top quality drinking (potable) water to every tap. We ask that all our customers help us protect our water sources and conserve their water usage to help preserve good quality water for our future generations.
