Mission/Vision Statement

Palm Bay Utilities provides superior drinking water, and advanced treatment and disposal of wastewater through an effective utility system reflecting responsible environmental stewardship striving for 100% customer satisfaction.

Our overall mission has five distinct components.

Mission 1:  Superior Drinking Water means:

  1. provide pleasant tasting tap water without smell or color
  2. having adequate water supply today and for long term
  3. having no harmful levels of chemicals, elements or bacteria in the drinking water
  4. maintaining adequate pressure for daily use
  5. providing continuous reliable water service in drought or hurricane
  6. having quality water from personal wells
  7. water meeting national safe drinking water

Mission 2:  Advanced Treatment and Disposal of Wastewater means:

  1. eliminating harmful bacteria from your yard, swamp, canal, stormwater holding pond, river, ocean
  2. reclaiming wastewater for reuse as a valued resource
  3. having remote offsite disposal away from your home
  4. having cleaner creeks, lagoons and rivers where you swim and fish
  5. providing reliable collection system:  flushing when it rains and not drinking your neighbors waste
  6. providing continuous, reliable service in a hurricane or emergency
  7. maintaining effective septic systems

Mission 3:  Effective Utility System means:

  1. maintaining reliable operation (24/7)
  2. building organizational and systems capacity to support growing customer base
  3. performing better than national utility standards
  4. extend the life of systems and equipment through preventative and predictive maintenance
  5. developing well trained, certified and professional utility staff
  6. using technology to increase productivity and to reduce costs
  7. have effective equipment and vehicle replacement programs
  8. planning for utility system development
  9. maintaining pressure for firefighting
  10. having consolidated, up-to-date, and usable emergency management plan

Mission 4:  Responsible Environmental Stewardship means:

  1. conserving of water resources
  2. complying with environment regulations and standards
  3. recognizing environmental aspects of utility operations
  4. having mandatory connection in water (all)
  5. self regulating for compliance:  St. Johns, DEP
  6. using recycling products in utility operations and proper disposal of equipment
  7. having mandatory connection in new developing areas for wastewater
  8. having mandatory connection in new developing areas for reuse (South, West)

Mission 5:  100% Customer Satisfaction means

  1. giving customer valued products and services for fees for support utilities operations
  2. knowing our customers and their expectations
  3. meeting the customer’s expectations
  4. seeking ongoing feedback on services from daily customers
  5. learning from feedback to improve services
  6. providing a high level of service resulting in high customer satisfaction

GOALS:
The Palm Bay Utilities Department will strive to:

  • plan and develop infrastructure for growth
  • upgrade existing infrastructure
  • preserve water resources through conservation and reuse
  • provide a financially sound utility system
  • become a world class utility organization
  • provide the best and safest workforce
  • upgrade technology
