GUIDELINES
Household Garbage - Pick up is on Wednesday and Saturday citywide.
Set out for pick up by 6am (but not before 5pm the night before) to be sure that you are not missed. Garbage, yard trash and/or recyclables must be set out in front of your residence at curbside. Place garbage, yard waste, recycling, and other items to be picked up in front of your home, preferably next to your driveway. Articles placed in front of abutting lots or across the street will not be picked up and will be in violation of City codes. Please remove your containers from the road on the same day as collection.
Garbage Cans must be no greater than 32 gallons or less than 20 gallons, have two handles and a tight fitting lid. They should not weigh over 50lbs. when filled. Do not set out wastebaskets or kitchen cans as they will be considered garbage. Harris Sanitation is not responsible for any repairing or replacing of improper containers.
Furniture, appliances, etc. can be set out with garbage. Hot water heaters, salt tanks, lawn mowers, washing machines, etc. mush have water, salt oil, etc. removed before setting out for pick up. If you need to dispose of any odd size or overweight items, please call Waste Management, Inc. 723-4455 for information. Any type of GLASS should be wrapped before placing in garbage to prevent breakage, spillage and injury. Large pieces (doors, windows, mirrors, tabletops) should be taped. DIRT, SOD and concrete should not be placed in garbage for pick up. Pet litter, packing material, small loose debris should be bagged to prevent spillage.
Per Florida law, Refrigerators and/or Freezers must have the doors removed for pick up. Do not fill them with garbage or yard trash. Put them out on your regular garbage pickup day.
If a Contractor is doing work at your home (tree surgeons, roofing, carpet, a/c, plumbing, fencing, etc.) you or they must remove the debris or pay Waste Management, Inc. an extra fee for the removal. Recyclables pickup is on Wednesday in the NW, SE and SW sections of the City and on Saturday in the NE area. Recycle bins must be out at the curb at the same place and time that the garbage and yard trash is placed for pick up. Please do not put garbage or yard trash in the bins.
All Cans - Please rinse. It is okay to crush cans and to leave the labels on the cans. Empty aerosol spray cans are acceptable.
Glass - food and beverage bottles and jars only - any color. Please rinse. It is okay to leave on the labels. Do not include: ceramics, dishes, window glass, mirrors or light bulbs.
Newspaper - Shiny inserts, magazines, junk mail, catalogs, phone books, paper, cardboard cereal boxes. No corrugated cardboard.
Plastic - beverage, shampoo, laundry detergent or bleach bottles okay. Please rinse. It is okay to leave on labels and to crush down. NO auto products (motor oil or anti-freeze), pool chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers.
Cardboard boxes can be dropped off for recycling at the Palm Bay Community Center, 1502 Pt. Malabar Blvd. NE (at rear of complex).
Newspapers, Magazines & Catalogs (shiny pages only) can be dropped off at the Palm Bay Community Center as well. The dumpster is also located at the rear of the complex.
Household Hazardous Wastes such as paint products, pool chemicals, automotive fluids, and pesticides are not collected at your curb. They can be taken to either Central Disposal Facility at 2250 Adamson Rd., Cocoa on Tuesday and Wednesday OR to the Sarno Landfill at 3379 Sarno Rd. on Thursday and Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. only.

Yard Trash consists of living debris such as trees, grass or shrubs. Please do not include any fencing, wood, dirt, rocks or garbage of any type. Yard trash must be cut to less than 4 ft. lengths with each piece weighing less than 50 lbs. It should be stacked and placed at the curb at the same location you use for garbage pick up. Do not place at side or rear of house or in front of vacant lots. Your residential billing covers only pickup of yard trash generated by normal yard maintenance from the lot your home is built on. If you do any type of land clearing on your home lot or any other lot you, Harris Sanitation is not responsible for the pickup. If they agree to do the pickup, an additional fee will be charged in advance for this type of service.
Loose yard trash, such as leaves, pine needles, grass must be in an container. The best container to use is a regulation 3-32 gallon garbage can weighing less than 50 lbs. when full. DO NOT USE PLASTIC BAGS.
Clam truck service is available for large piles that cannot be readily removed during the weekly service. Please call Waste Management, Inc. to schedule special pickup service at 723-4455 between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
