Communications Center

Communications Center

The call to 9-1-1 can mean the difference between life and death in some cases.  The Communications Center is the heart and brains of every police, fire and rescue agency.  It is virtually the only link between those in need of assistance and those who provide it.  The Palm Bay Police Department’s Communications Center is staffed by a group of professionals trained in handling emergency communications.

It is the job of these men and women to field calls for help and initiate the proper manpower and resources to respond to the situation.  The Communications Center is staffed by emergency dispatchers and telecommunicators keeping track of field units, calls for service from both police and fire related emergencies, and recording all data that coincides with each call response.

EMERGENCY SERVICE – "When should I call 911?"

Any time you find that you have no personal control over a situation, and are not able to help yourself or someone else, or the situation is potentially dangerous, you should call 911.

NON-EMERGENCY RESPONSE SERVICE

"When should I call 952-3456"?

Situations that are not life threatening, where you or someone else is not likely to be hurt, will normally be non-emergency calls where a report may be taken over the telephone, such as:

  • Accidents (fender benders) no injuries
  • Property damage (when suspect is gone)
  • Break-in to vehicle (when suspect is gone)
  • Theft of property (when suspect is gone)
  • Vandalism (when suspect is gone)
  • Panhandlers (not disorderly)
  • Intoxicated persons (not disorderly)

When police, fire or medical response is needed, call 911.
