The Department appreciates the importance of recognizing individual achievements. Recognition within the Department and community will assist in the overall awareness of the excellence obtained by employees of this Department.
Nominations are received and approved throughout the year to spotlight specific acts or a culmination of acts. The categories range from the Letter of Recognition to the Medal of Valor. The Officer and Civilian of the Year are selected from categories that include the Medal of Valor, Life Saving Award, Distinguished Service Cross, Meritorious Service, and Officer and Civilian of the Month.
The Officer and Civilian of the Month category is unique in that employees are recognized by Chief Doug Muldoon at The Greater Palm Bay Chamber's Monthly Luncheon. Supervisors and/or peers nominate employees for contributions that are above and beyond their normal duties and the Awards Committee makes the final selection. The Awards Committee consists of representatives from each union as well as a Staff Member appointed by the Chief.
Our Annual Awards Banquet is held in May of each year in which the previous year annual employee awards are presented. These individuals are the best of the best and have shown why the Palm Bay Police Department is one of the premier law enforcement agencies in the State of Florida.
