Florida Cooters (Turtles) In Turkey Creek

The Florida Cooter is a large river turtle that likes to sun itself on logs and rocks. You can often see just their heads poking out of the water. They are excellent swimmers and eat a variety of aquatic vegetation. The top of the shell is called a carapace, the bottom is called a plastron. They are closely related to the River Cooter and some scientists think they are the same species.
