Brevard Fire station 89 Replacement Operational

Posted: 07/18/08

A brand-new building replacing Brevard County Fire-Rescue Station 89, lost in May’s brush fires, is now operational.
The new fire station is a 1500-square-foot modular building, built to commercial-grade standards with a 130-mph wind rating and ADA compliance, equipped with a fire alarm and sprinkler system. The station, which houses six firefighter/paramedics on 24-hour shifts, replaced a single-wide mobile home. Station 89 is a rescue/ambulance station which does not have a fire engine assigned to it.
Prior to the fires, the capital improvement plan for the fire-rescue department called for the replacement of a modular building at Station 66 at 1695 Aurora Road. To expedite replacement of Station 89, at 2051 DeGroodt Avenue, the new building was delivered and set up at the Palm Bay location instead.
The county anticipates reimbursement of firefighting expenses from a combination of State of Florida, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and insurance proceeds. FEMA has declared the Brevard County Complex fires as eligible for the Fire Management Assistance Grant Program.
