City of Palm Bay News Release

United Way begins Fire Fund Distribution

United Way will begin distributing the proceeds from the 2008 Fire Response Fund on Monday, June 9th. 

The Salvation Army South Brevard Corps will be distributing these funds on our behalf.  Residents affected by the fires in South Brevard should contact The Salvation Army South Brevard Corps, 1080 Hickory Street, Melbourne at 321-724-0494 to schedule an appointment to apply for funding.  Persons will not be seen without an appointment. Please see the following eligibility guidelines: 

Primary – Total Loss of Home

  • Each household is eligible to receive a maximum of $2,500 in assistance - individuals/couples with dependent children/stepchildren are eligible to receive an additional $250 per dependent to a maximum of $500.
  • Both homeowners and renters are eligible to apply.
  • Applicant must provide proof of residency at an address confirmed by Palm Bay, Malabar or Grant Valkaria as having been completely destroyed.
  • Applicant must clearly convey how assistance will be used – assistance can be used for temporary shelter/hotel, deposit/rent, water/electricity, furniture/domestic items, and groceries/basic needs necessities.  Reimbursement for these items will be permitted as long as receipts are provided.
  • Applicant must provide a valid drivers license and social security number for each adult and a social security number for each dependent.

Secondary – Smaller Losses

  • Households are eligible to receive assistance at a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $500
  • Both homeowners and renters are eligible to apply
  • Applicant must provide proof of residency at an address confirmed by Palm Bay, Malabar or Grant Valkaria as having been damaged
  • Applicant must express financial hardship due to fire
  • Applicant must clearly convey how assistance will be used
  • The Salvation Army will have the authority to provide “secondary” assistance for significant immediate needs.  They will accept applications for secondary/smaller losses and provide a list of those applicants to the Fire Response Fund Committee for approval in approximately 30 days.
