Teens Charged as Adults for Park Shooting
Posted: 05/29/08
Palm Bay, FL – Two teens involved in a shooting at a local park earlier this month have been charged as adults, one is now free on bail. Jesse Trautman (dob 08/23/1990) is being charged with aggravated assault while using a firearm. On Monday, a judge ordered him held on $25,000 bail. Trautman subsequently posted $2,500 and was released with the condition he not return to the scene of the crime and that he have no contact with the victims in the case. Kyle Lambert (dob 11-06-92) faces the same charge as an adult and remains in the Brevard County Detention Center without bond.
On Friday, May 3, 2008 at approximately 6:00 PM the two teens went to Fred Lee Park located at 895 Emerson Drive where they met another teen that they had argued with earlier in the day while at school. At some point during this encounter Trautman provided Lambert with a gun and encouraged him to shoot at the teen that was with several friends at the time. Lambert fired several shots into the air and then pointed the gun directly at the intended victim and fired several rounds from across a field. The rounds went in the direction of several houses at the parks border. The park was crowded with people playing football, tennis and other activities including small children on a playground less than 100-feet away. No one was injured.
Shortly after the shooting, several witnesses confirmed both Trautman and Lambert’s involvement in the incident. The firearm has still not been recovered. “These juveniles should be charged as adults and face more serious consequences for their actions than they have in the past,” said Officer Ken Bash who serves as the Department’s Youth Services Officer. “Their past behavior as juveniles only illustrates their propensity towards violence and it needs to be dealt with.”
The next court date in this case is scheduled for June 12..
