City of Palm Bay News Release
nPU officers relaunch cAT program
Posted: 1/16/08
The Palm Bay Police Department’s Neighborhood Policing Unit, in conjunction with the VCOP office, is re-launching a program designed to prevent auto theft. CAT (Combat Auto Theft) stickers are currently available at no cost to interested citizens. Because the new program now meets state standards, the stickers will be recognized by law enforcement agencies from other jurisdictions around Florida. Participants in the program will register their vehicle information with the Police Department and will receive a yellow CAT sticker which is to be placed on the rear view window.
The sticker informs officers that the vehicle is not normally driven between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. If a law enforcement officer sees the vehicle being driven during that time window, the officer is authorized to stop the vehicle and investigate. “It’s not only a good tool to prevent vehicle theft, but it also provides a way for us to locate a stolen vehicle more quickly,” said Officer Ron Lugo of the Neighborhood Policing Unit who is spearheading the new initiative within Palm Bay.
For those interested in obtaining a CAT sticker for their vehicle, there is no charge but information must be placed on record with the Police Department. For more information please contact the Neighborhood Policing Unit via email at NPU@pbfl.org by calling the VCOP office at 321-953-8987.
