City of Palm Bay News Release
police to host neighborhood watch seminar
Posted: 1/14/08
The Palm Bay Police Department’s Neighborhood Policing Unit will host a Neighborhood Watch Seminar on January 26, 2008 from 9 a.m. until noon at the City Council Chambers located at City Hall, 120 Malabar Road, Palm Bay. The seminar offers an opportunity for local residents to meet their neighborhood police officers and discuss issues impacting their communities. Officers will provide information about how to start and maintain a successful neighborhood watch organization, legal implications, dealing with sex offenders, code enforcement related issues, home security and how to get a home security survey where trained officers will inspect your home and provide tips and advice on security improvements.
Neighborhood watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer. In areas with active neighborhood watch groups, the opportunity for criminal activity is significantly reduced. “This will be a great opportunity for residents to get more involved in the safety of their community,” said Officer Joann Upperman. “These residents can make a significant difference just by working together and educating themselves about their own personal safety and about the safety of those around them.”
The seminar is free and open to the public, no reservations necessary. For more information please contact Officer JoAnn Upperman or Officer Ron Lugo at 321-952-3456.
