News Release - Detectives Investigate Fire at School Playground

Detectives are currently investigating an overnight fire that occurred on the playground at Columbia Elementary School where most of the play equipment was destroyed. At approximately 11:00 p.m. Saturday, patrol officers responded to the school which is located at 1225 Waco Blvd after a witness called police to report a fire on the property. Patrol officers arriving on scene prior to Fire Rescue’s arrival, discovered the playground gym equipment was on fire outside the rear of the school. Firefighters arrived and contained the fire to the playground area. K-9 “Patriot” conducted a follow-up search of the area in attempts to locate any evidence and/or potential suspects. Some undisclosed items were taken as evidence and crime scene investigators further processed the scene.
