Firefighters Launch Fire Prevention Week with calendar premier

Palm Bay Firefighters will kick off National Fire Prevention Week with the premier of the 2008 Palm Bay Professional Firefighters Hometown Heroes Calendar.  A special premier event will be held at Space Coast Harley-Davidson Palm Bay from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. today (Friday). 

For the third time in three years, Palm Bay firefighters have posed for the charity calendar which is designed to raise money and awareness for fire safety education.  The National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) marks the second week of October as National Fire Prevention week, with this year’s theme being “Practice Your Escape Plan!”  According to the NFPA, it’s not enough to have a home fire escape plan.  To escape safely, you must make sure that everyone in the home has practiced the plan.  In an NFPA poll, a majority of Americans have a fire escape plan, but most have never practiced it.  From October 7-13, fire safety advocates will be spreading the word that when it comes to escape plans, practice is key! 

The 2008 Palm Bay Professional Firefighters calendar features fire safety tips to coincide with each month.  Palm Bay Firefighters will be available to sign the calendars at the premier event which also features Palm Bay Bike Night, the Battle of the Bands, silent auction, 50/50 cash raffle, food and drinks.  Palm Bay Professional Firefighters partnered with Space Coast Harley-Davidson, The Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce, WA1A radio, PIP Printing and the Palm Bay Police Athletic League for the 2008 premier event. Calendars are now available for purchase at $10 per calendar at the following locations:

• Palm Bay City Store, located inside City Hall, 120 Malabar Road, Palm Bay.
• Palm Bay Fire Rescue Station 90 located at 2144 Palm Bay Road
• Space Coast Harley-Davidson, 1440 Executive Circle NE Palm Bay
• PIP Printing 1480 Palm Bay Road NE, Palm Bay
