First recipient of home grant gets shutters

The first of more than 200 homeowners to eligible to receive home improvements through a grant designed to help them guard against hurricane damage will get hurricane shutters put on her home today (Wednesday).  June Whitworth, a 65-year-old Palm Bay resident will have shutters installed by Advance Home Repair through the My Safe Florida Home Program, a grant by the City of Palm Bay and the State of Florida to assist families in securing their homes to prevent damage from future hurricanes. More than 2200 people registered for assistance through the recent lottery held by the City in order to have a chance to receive assistance.  Recipients are eligible for up to $5,000 in assistance.
