Revision to Sign Code

The City of Palm Bay is beginning the process of preparing and adopting a new sign code for the City of the Palm.  The current code, adopted in 1982, has had several modifications through the years.  However, due to changes in the laws governing signage and court cases interpreting those laws, a major rewrite of the Sign Code is overdue.

First steps in this endeavor will involve a series of public workshops or charrettes to determine policy areas of the Sign Code that warrant modifications.  Issues to be considered at these workshops include sign amortization (what happens if an existing sign does not meet the new Sign Code requirements), the type of signs to be regulated and the type of signs to be permitted, developing criteria for signs of different types and located in different areas (commercial signs near residential for instance) and a review of the strengths and weaknesses of the current Sign Code.
