Florida Building Code: Beginning April 1, 2002, the code used for regulating all construction within the State of Florida has changed to the Florida Building Code. Information about this new code can be found by following this link to the Florida Department of Community Affairs website. Comparisons between the old Southern Building Code and the new Florida Building Code can be found at the International Code Council website.

Most of the United States is covered by building regulations ranging in coverage from fire and structural safety to health, security and conservation of energy. Florida's state and local governments have enacted various building and building-related codes in order to protect your life, health and property. State law requires jurisdictions to provide comprehensive building code enforcement services, including plan reviews and site inspections.

The nation requires Homeland Security to provide a comprehensive and effective means to protect the public from terrorist acts to Federal, State, and local authorities and to the American people. Applications for Homeland Security commercial building permitting may be submitted to the Building Division. For a complete guide on documents required for permitting go to the Homeland Security permitting guidelines form in the commercial forms section.
