Last night there was a pipe failure over the Melbourne Tillman Water Control District (MTWCD) canal crossing at Greenbriar Avenue NW between Malabar Road NW and Manhattan Street NW. The collapse was due to a dual 40” x 65” corrugated metal culvert failure under the roadway at the canal crossing. Due to the inclement weather the water flow under the road increased, and it washed out the road. A temporary detour route was put in place last night until the permanent detour route is implemented. The current detour is as follows:
- Vehicles coming from south of the closure on Malabar Road will be routed to Jupiter Boulevard NW, then to Americana Boulevard NW, then to Greenbriar Avenue NW.
- Vehicles coming from north of the closure will be routed to Americana Boulevard NW, then to Jupiter Boulevard NW, then to Malabar Road.
Public Works Staff will be working on a permanent solution. At this time, the road is expected to be closed for 3-4 months. Updates will be provided as information come available. Should you have any questions please contact the Public Works Department at 952-3437.
