Welcome to the Budget Office, a division of the City Manager's Office. Our division prepares, implements, and monitors the annual operating and capital budgets for the City. Management analyses, special projects and the coordination of PalmStat, the City’s targeted performance accountability system, are other key services provided.
The FY 08 Budget totals $141,933,463. This proposed budget maintains current services, reduces total positions by only 5.4 FTEs, preserves employee COLA and merit-steps and meets required reserve levels.
The City has a Council-Manager form of government, and is responsible for the provision of a multitude of services to its citizens, including such fundamentals as police, fire, code compliance, water and sewer utilities, roads and drainage, and parks and recreation. In addition to providing these existing services, the City consistently strives to evaluate and identify the needs of the community, and offers new services to support growth, such as last year's opening of Palm Bay's first municipal charter school.
Each year starting in February the Budget Office begins working in collaboration with City Management and City Departments to develop a budget document that will be presented to the City Council in August for review and approval prior to the start of the new fiscal year October 1. It is the goal of the Budget Office to generate a user-friendly, meaningful document that will accurately reflect both the vision and goals of the City Council, as well as the interests of our citizens.
