council seats & terms
The City of Palm Bay is governed by a five (5) member City Council elected at large on a non-partisan basis. Although Councilmembers are elected by seats, all of the officials are elected by city-wide vote.
The Mayor and two Councilmembers are elected in one year and the other two Councilmembers are elected the following year. The electorate in 2003 voted to change the three (3) year terms to four (4) year terms commencing in 2008. Councilmembers serve four (4) year terms and are limited to serving three (3) consecutive terms.
Elections are held in November. Also in November of each year, one Councilmember is selected to serve as Deputy Mayor.
