District One

Map of Police Districts

District 1 is comprised of the area East of I-95 and North of Malabar Road. It is a “landlocked” district, providing little opportunity for expansion. District 1 is currently measured at 15.5 square miles. It has an estimated population of 27,351 residents. District 1 has most of the commercial and multi-family housing units within the city, resulting in a small land area and a dense population.

In June of 2009 new district headquarters opened on Main Street.  These offices allow officers to remain within their assigned district to complete reports, conduct interviews, review evidence, and respond to calls for service in a more efficient manner rather than having to report to the main police headquarters on the other side of the city.  These offices also allow citizens an opportunity to meet officers assigned to their community and file reports much more conveniently.

In 2009 District 1 saw a slight decrease in the total number of burglaries reported. This is due in part to targeted enforcement efforts combined with public education in crime prevention strategies.

District Two

Map of Police Districts

District 2 consists of our Patrol Zones 6 & 7, which is the area west of I-95 and north of Malabar Road and Zone 9, which is an area south of Malabar Road and west of DeGroodt Road. District 2 is currently 29.6 square miles of Palm Bay’s total land mass area of just under 100 square miles.

In 2009 District 2 became home of the new "Heritage High School" located approximately 2 miles west of City Hall. District 2 is comprised of primarily single family residential homes and a few apartment complexes.  The most significant crime problems facing this area are daytime residential burglaries and secondly, nighttime vehicle burglaries.  In 2009 District 2 citizens reported a total of 506 burglaries, which is 16% more than the 2008 numbers. However, there was greater success in apprehending burglars in 2009 which was significantly attributed to our citizens that immediately reported suspicious persons at their neighbor's home, or were actually seen going into or coming out of a neighbor's home. Patrol officers also encouraged residents to secure personal valuables, so if a burglar/thief chooses them as a target the property loss and valuables accessible to be stolen are minimized.  To reduce the impacts of vehicle burglaries, simple rules such as remove your valuables (expensive jewelry, wallet, purses, GPS systems, IPODS, and laptops) from vehicles each night. Be sure to have the serial numbers on expensive electronic equipment and firearms and lock your car doors. Only with a partnership and the assistance of our citizens will we have a positive impact on reducing crime in Palm Bay!

Because of the residential population of District 2, our officers are also confronted each day with family issues, such as domestic violence and disputes.  We encourage every family member to seek alternative solutions to family problems before violence becomes a part of the problem! Victims of domestic violence need to report acts of violence so appropriate intervention(s) will help stop or reduce any future acts of violence.

District Three

Map of Police Districts

District 3 is the area west of I-95 to Minton Road and south to Bombardier, south of Malabar Road to the south city limits. over the past couple of years, the City of Palm Bay has annexed a significant land area south of the old city limits and east of Micco Road. District 3 encompasses approximately 52.9 square miles of the City's near 100 square miles.

Reported burglaries continue to be the most problematic crime impacting the residents of this District however of note in 2009 was a highly successful clearance rate for those crimes either by arrest, requests for capias or exceptional clearances. Pro-active coordinated efforts within the District contributed to a significant increase in the clearance rates for these crimes. With 435 total burglaries reported, District 3 personnel cleared approximately 20% of the cases. The FBI national average for clearance of these crimes is typically in the area of 11%. Collective work among Patrol, Crime Suppression Unit, District Detectives and Youth Services Officers is being credited with the above average success in solving the area’s most problematic criminal activity.
