William Berger was named Chief of Police of the City of Palm Bay on September 25, 2004. Previous to his appointment, Chief Berger spent 15 1/2 years as the City of North Miami Beach Police Chief (1989-2004).
Chief Berger has extensive law enforcement experience. He has worked in Radio Patrol, Training, Legal, Budget, Planning, Homicide, Robbery, Community Relations, and Internal Affairs. His previous assignment, before joining the City of North Miami Beach Police Department, was that of Commander of the City of Miami Training Unit and Police Academy. Deputy Chief Doug Muldoon began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in August 1976. He has worked in all sections of the agency and has served on the senior staff of the department since 1983. He is currently assigned as the Support Services Division Commander. This Division includes Training, Recruiting, Technical Services, Logistics, Community Relations (Police Athletic League, Domestic Violence Advocates, and Volunteer Program), Emergency Management, and Crossing Guards. Major John Blackledge began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in September 1980. He is currently Major of the Investigations Division, which includes General Crimes, Major Case, Narcotics, Criminalistics, and the Youth Services/Gang Unit.
Major John Blackledge has a BA Degree in Allied Law. He is also a FDLE Certified Legal Instructor and Lead Instructor at Brevard Community College. He is a graduate of the 193rd Session of the FBI National Academy and has completed FSU Certified Public Manager Coursework.
Major Dante Cristofaro began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in January 1976. He is currently assigned to the Uniform Services Division, which consists of Patrol, Communications, Crime Suppression Unit, Traffic/Motorcycle Unit, Neighborhood Policing Unit, Desk Booking Officers, Patrol and Interdiction K-9 Units, and the DUI Unit. He has an AS Degree in Criminal Justice.
Major Doug Potts began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in May 1980. He is currently assigned to the Support Services Division and oversees the Training and Recruiting Section and Technical Services. He is a graduate of Southern Police Institute Career Officer Development Course.
Captain Alan Abner has been employed by the Palm Bay Police Department since June of 1985. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Administration. As a form of continuing education, Captain Abner is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Career Officer Development Course.
Captain Doug Dechenne began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in October 1977. He is currently assigned to the Uniform Services Division, District 2. He has a Master Degree in Public Administration and is a graduate of the 174th Session of the FBI National Academy.
Captain Bob Kenney began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in November 1984. He is currently assigned to the Uniform Services Division, District 3. During his tenure with the Department, he was an entry team member on SWAT as well as serving as the SWAT Commander. Captain Kenney has also been the lead Defensive Tactics Instructor for not only the police department but with the Brevard Law Enforcement Academy for the past 15 years. He is also a state certified firearms instructor at the police department and the police academy. During Captain Kenney's 25 years of service, he has served in Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Professional Standards, and the Street Crimes Unit prior to being promoted to District Commander. He has an AA Degree in Psychology.
