Palm Bay Utilities Crew Members Recieved Acts of Kindness Award

Post Date:10/04/2017 10:29 AM

Palm Bay Utilities crew members were recognized for their heroic efforts and awarded a City Recognition Award: Good Samaritan/Acts of Kindness. Six Palm Bay Utilities crew members, Jeremy Gordon, Eric Ewertz, Ron Allen, Peter Corbley, Jody Ballard and Benjamin Schems were on a job location when they noticed a contractor having problems with the gear of his truck. The truck twisted as the driver was dumping a load of dirt. The truck rolled over with the driver inside. Ewertz and Schems could see the driver was moving inside.  Schems tried talking to him as Ewertz and Gordon climbed onto the truck to help him out of the door. Corbley called 911 while Ballard and Allen contained the oil and hydraulic fluid in buckets that the truck was losing from the accident. Ewertz, Gordon, and Allen helped the driver to an area of safety away from his truck. The six men stayed with the driver until Firefighters and Paramedics were on the scene and the driver received medical attention.

The City of Palm Bay recognized the six men for their good deeds and acts of kindness. The recognition awards are given based on nominations from citizens or fellow employees.  In this case Benjamin Schems nominated his crew for their actions, helping the trucker in need.
