James Rogers Named Interim Chief of Palm Bay Police Department

With the retirement of Chief Mark Renkens, City Manager Gregg Lynk has named Deputy Chief James 'Jim' Rogers as Acting Chief of the Palm Bay Police Department, effective Friday, June 16, 2017 until Renkens' official retirement date of June 30, 2017. As of July 1, Rogers will assume the title of Interim Chief, serving as the head of the Palm Bay Police Department until a new Chief of Police is selected.
"With his extensive experience and time served with the Police Department, I am certain that the City of Palm Bay will be in excellent hands with Interim Chief Rogers during this transition," remarked City Manager Gregg Lynk.
Interim Chief Rogers began his career with the Palm Bay Police Department in 1987 and has spent the intervening years working his way through the ranks before being named Deputy Chief in 2015. He has served on the SWAT team, Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Professional Standards, Youth Services and the Communications Center. Rogers is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Southern Police Institute, with an Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master's degree in Political Science.
