Volunteer Citizens on Patrol Program Now Recruiting
The Palm Bay Police Department is aggressively recruiting applicants for its V-Cop Program. We are looking for people interested in helping their community through the police department. We are in need of people interested in working road patrols, which include many duties such as traffic control, house checks, handling minor accidents, and numerous other duties. V-Cop volunteers are the eyes and ears for the police department. The program also offers opportunities for clerical work, working our front desk and numerous jobs performed inside the police department.
Requirement includes: a thorough background check, fingerprinting, valid safe driver’s license and the ability to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours per month. Applicants must be at least 19 years old. Those interested should stop by the Palm Bay Police Department at 130 Malabar Road between 8 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday for a brief screening and to pick up an application.

New Heath and Fitness Program for the Youth of Palm Bay
Palm Bay PAL
announces a new fitness program designed to educate youth in ways to live healthy lifestyles. The program will teach participants healthy eating habits, exercise techniques and overall tips for living healthy. The program begins January 23rd and meets Mondays4:30-530 p.m. and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. The cost is $30.00 for children ages 10-17. Financial assistance and grants are available for those that qualify.

Suspects Sought in Armed Robbery Shooting
Detectives are currently searching for at least two suspects wanted in connection with a robbery and shooting that occurred Thursday morning, December 29th. At approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday, patrol officers responded to 5030 Minton Road after receiving reports of shots fired in the area. When officers arrived they located a white male who reported being robbed and shot at by two black males who stole his car with cash and merchandise. The victim owns the Gold Mine jewelry store and pawn shop located at the address. He was on his way in to the store to open for open business when he was approached by the suspects. As the suspects fled, the victim returned fire. No one was injured. A short time later the victim's vehicle, a Chrysler 300, was located abandoned in the area of Orlov St. A witness saw the two black males get into a silver SUV driven by a white male. Just after 2 p.m. the silver SUV was located abandoned in the area of Hazelton Ave. Some of the stolen property was recovered in a nearby trash container. The suspects are only described as two black males possibly in their twenties, thin build, wearing reflective vests.
